Do Foreigners Pay More at Seoul Skin Clinics? How to Compare Prices Correctly
You find a skin treatment you're interested in, check the price online, then see someone else mention a completely different number. So you start wondering: "Is that the local price, or will I pay more because I'm a foreigner?"
Being an international visitor doesn't automatically mean paying a higher treatment price. At Forena Clinic, Korean and international patients pay the same prices for the same treatments. English interpretation is also provided at no additional charge.
However, comparing prices across clinics requires more than matching a treatment name. The product, quantity, package conditions, and included services all matter.
Here's how to understand a quote, and what to check before booking a skin clinic in Seoul.
Why do skin clinic prices in Seoul vary?
For medical services outside national health insurance coverage, prices are set by individual medical institutions. Korea's Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service explains that fees can differ according to staffing, facilities, equipment, and treatment complexity. Additional services and materials can also affect the final bill.
That means two clinics quoting different amounts doesn't, by itself, prove that one is charging a "foreigner price." You may be comparing different treatment specifications or different packages.
At the same time, you shouldn't have to guess why a quote is higher. When the treatment, quantity, and booking conditions are identical, asking for an explanation is entirely reasonable.
The most useful question isn't just "How much does it cost?" It's "What exactly does that price include?"
Compare the exact treatment, not just its name
A broad label such as "Botox," "skin booster," or "lifting treatment" isn't enough to make a meaningful comparison. Forena's treatment menu, for example, distinguishes between injectable brands and quantities, as well as different energy levels for ONDA treatments.
Before comparing quotes, ask for these details:

This list helps you check a quote. It isn't meant to help you choose your own treatment dose.
For example, a quote for 2cc of a particular injectable isn't directly comparable with a quote for 4cc. Likewise, a single procedure and a package with several procedures are different purchases, even when both target the same skin concern.
Ask the clinic to explain the proposed amount and treatment scope before deciding whether the price represents good value for your needs.
A promotional price isn't necessarily a "local price"
Before assuming that a lower price is available only to Korean patients, check whether it's a promotional offer.
At Forena, we publish first-visit offers as well as time-limited monthly promotions. These have specific eligibility requirements, treatment inclusions, or validity dates. A first-visit promotion, for example, is intended for patients visiting the clinic for the first time.
When reviewing an advertisement or someone else's receipt, check whether you're comparing:
A regular price with a first-visit or limited-time offer
A standalone treatment with a package
The same product, quantity, treatment area, and number of sessions
A useful approach is to send the clinic a screenshot and ask: "Is this offer currently available, am I eligible, and what exactly is included?"
This gives the clinic something specific to clarify instead of leaving you to compare incomplete information.
Is VAT included? Always compare the final total
Tax presentation is another detail worth checking. For services subject to Korea's standard 10% value-added tax (VAT), confirm whether the quoted amount already includes it.
Consider this hypothetical example:
Quoted price | Final amount, assuming no other charges |
KRW 100,000, excluding 10% VAT | KRW 110,000 |
KRW 110,000, including VAT | KRW 110,000 |
The first number looks lower, but the final payment is identical.

Can foreign visitors still receive a medical VAT refund in 2026?
The former foreign-tourist VAT refund scheme for qualifying cosmetic medical services doesn't cover treatments provided from January 1, 2026. Current legislation limits the scheme to eligible services provided through December 31, 2025.
For a 2026 appointment, budget for the full quoted amount rather than assuming you can reclaim medical-treatment VAT at the airport. Older blog posts or travel videos describing that refund may refer to the previous rules.
Check consultation, interpretation, and optional services
Beyond the procedure itself, ask whether your quote includes consultation, skin analysis, anesthesia, and any additional care. When booking through a third party, request a clear distinction between the clinic's treatment charges and any separately charged coordination services.
These are questions worth asking. They aren't a reason to assume every clinic or booking service adds extra fees.

Choosing an optional assessment or service changes what you're purchasing.
How to ask about pricing before your visit
You don't need to know every device name or medical term before contacting a clinic. Start with your concerns, your budget, and a request for clear pricing. For example:
"I am interested in treatment for my main skin concerns, and my budget is approximately KRW ____. Could you confirm the treatment options, exact product or device, quantity, and final VAT-inclusive price? Please also let me know whether consultation or any additional services cost extra, and whether the same pricing applies to Korean and international patients."
Before agreeing to a package, ask which elements address your main concern and which are optional. Request an updated total whenever the plan changes.
Avoid treating the largest package as the default choice. The goal is to understand the proposed treatment, not to buy the most procedures your budget allows.
